Indoor/outdoor rugs face the formidable challenge of needing to looking impeccable while standing up to outside traffic and the elements. They need to withstand the demands of a living room as well as the rain, sun, and everything else mother nature can bring. On top of that, they should be simple to clean, easy to move around, and feel good underfoot. Read our review of the Fab Habitat Reversible Rug to see if it rises to the challenge and if it is truly fabulous.

Performance: Lovely

We love this product’s vibrant colors, fun patterns, and adorable packaging. It was hard to choose the style to test as there are so many colorful options. However, we settled on the Candy color/pattern, which is a series of pink, yellow, gray, and green stripes in both bright and muted tones. It has a cheerful confetti feeling with pleasing subtlety due to its softer hues. It works with a wide range of furniture. Up close, it looks bright and energetic, and from a distance, it is modern, beachy, and neutral feeling with a pop of color.  The Fab Habitat Reversible rug also excels in portability. It weighs just 7 pounds for the 6 x 9-foot size. It is super easy to move it as needed, which is particularly helpful when you need to rinse it off. The smooth, soft feel of the rug feels great under bare feet. The rug also stays in place despite its lightness. Plus, both sides are the “top.” You can flip it over to reveal an alternative design on the opposite side, so you get two rugs in one. Since the product is so light you can easily move it around to create an outdoor oasis wherever you please. It also looks great on porches and inside. Since it’s so portable, you can easily transport it with you to the park, the beach, or a campsite. I used my rug all over my house, in my backyard, on my front porch, and took it to a nearby playground for a picnic. The rug also comes with slim velcro straps in bright pink to make keeping the rug rolled up a snap. The included simple jute bag for toting or storage is a great bonus.

Design: Eco-friendly

This rug is made from 100% recycled plastic. I felt good buying a sustainable, recycled product. The plastic material is tightly woven to create a smooth surface, which is also stain, mold, mildew, and UV resistant. It arrives in adorable, casual-cool packaging as well, including the removable hot pink elastic velcro straps and the cute burlap tote. Fab Habitat Reversible Rug comes in 14 colorful designs that all incorporate repeated stripes of color either in the same or different hues. The options include Candy (pinks, yellows, blues, greens, and grays), Cancun Multicolor (dark reds, blues, and greens), Cancun Sunset (reds and oranges), Cancun Turquoise and Moss Green (blues and greens), Midnight Grey (blues and grays), Indigo (blues), Cancun Green (greens), Lemon and Apple Green (yellows and greens), Green (greens), Multi (pinks, greens, blues, and yellows), Cancun Indigo (blues and blacks), Multicolor (reds, oranges, and blues), Big Sur Teal (blues), and Midnight (blacks, grays, and whites).  It also comes in 7 sizes, including 2.5 x 8 feet, 3 x 5 feet, 4 by 6 feet, 5 x 8 feet, 6 x 9 feet, 8 feet round, and 8 x 10 feet. The jute carrying bag and elastic bands that wrap the rug (not included with the 2.5, 3, 8 and 9 feet sizes) make the rug feel like a tote and easy to store. It is quite light, easy to carry, and very simple to roll up. The manufacturer recommends using a non-stick pad underneath the rug to keep the rug securely in place. I used mine without that and found it laid flat and didn’t move around but I also had chairs over it to hold it in place. If I did not have furniture on top, then I would have used a pad.

Ease of Cleaning: Fantastic

The Fab Habitat Reversible Rug is a dream to clean. Spills and dirt wash away easily with a damp rag or simply a spray of the hose. Nothing soaks into the plastic so anything that gets on it comes off without much effort. Plus, it dries quickly. After multiple washes due to muddy feet, dropped cups of juice, and snack crumbs, the rug retained its vivid color and new look. The material is mold and mildew resistant and UV resistant to prevent fading.

Price: Reasonable

Fab Habitat Reversible Rugs range in price from $39 to $169 depending on the size and color. Ours was the 6 x 9 foot size, and it cost $119. This is a great price. Similar rugs can cost several hundred dollars. For example, the rugs available right at around $120 price point in a similar size are not nearly as attractive, portable, or high quality.

Fab Habitat Reversible Rug vs. Waverly Contemporary Indoor/Outdoor Rug

Both of these are attractive, durable, well constructed indoor/outdoor rugs that come in fun patterns. The Waverly Contemporary Indoor/Outdoor Rug has the advantage of a soft pile texture and a fun and relaxing leaf pattern. Its drawback is that it soaks up water and takes too long to dry so it is not ideal for areas that will get a lot of rain. The Fab Habitat comes in lots of vibrant patterns and a good variety of sizes. Plus, it’s made with recycled materials that don’t take in water at all so it’s super easy to maintain. Best of all, this Fab Habitat rug just wows with its cheerful style. Fab Habitat’s Reversible Rug is a fantastic choice in an indoor/outdoor rug. It offers a fun look with tons of colors and sizes to pick from—and it’s easy-to-clean, quick-drying, and comfortable to walk on. Plus, it’s very light and comes with a cute jute bag that makes it super easy to tote or store.
