Meaning and Uses of Peridot

Peridot is a popular stone for protection against difficulties and negativity. It is also often used to strengthen and purify the physical and energetic bodies. Peridot is considered a very joyful, warm, friendly stone that can ease anger and jealousy as well as encourage open-heartedness. It is also a stone of abundance and gratitude, and can help us to acknowledge and invite abundance, both material and spiritual, in our lives. Peridot is also helpful when it comes to recognizing patterns that have been causing blocks, so that you can move past them. In addition, peridot can help you to trust your own inner voice and become less attached to the guidance of others outside of you.

Uses in Feng Shui

Activate Zhen, the New Beginnings Area

There is an area of the feng shui bagua, called Zhen in Chinese, that is related to new beginnings as well as family. To find Zhen in your home, stay in the front entrance looking in, and imagine a three-by-three grid laid over the space. The middle section on the left-hand side is Zhen, or New Beginnings.   One aspect of starting something new is releasing any previous patterns that may have been holding you back. Because peridot can be very helpful in recognizing and releasing these blocks, it can be a great addition to the new beginnings area. This area is also connected to the color green, so placing a green stone like peridot in this area is a beautiful way to activate it. In addition to boosting new beginnings, Zhen can also help to promote family harmony, so you may want to place peridot here with this intention if that’s something you’d like to work on.

Activate Xun, the Wealth Corner

The wealth corner is one of the most popular areas of the feng shui bagua, and feng shui consultants get a lot of questions about it! It’s generally located in the back left corner of your home.  Most people associate this area of the home with financial wealth and prosperity, and while that is certainly a part of it, there are also many other layers to the wealth corner. In addition to your finances, it’s related to how abundant you feel, your sense of spiritual abundance, and how you value yourself.  You might want to activate Xun if you want to bring in more wealth and prosperity, or if you want to feel a greater sense of abundance in your life in other ways. It’s also helpful to work with this area when you are working on issues of self-worth and wanting to value yourself more. Peridot is a wonderful stone to support all of these intentions, and placing it in the wealth corner is a great way to activate this area of the bagua.

Invite Wood Energy

Green, the color of peridot, is associated with the wood element. Wood is one of the five elements used in feng shui, and we often call on wood energy when we want to invite kindness, flexibility, growth, and healing. If these concepts resonate with you, you might want to place peridot in your home with the intention of cultivating more of these qualities in your life. Trust your intuition to lead you when deciding what part of your home could use more of this energy. If you’re not sure where to place your peridot, your bedroom is always a good place to start!

Wear Peridot

You can also wear peridot. This may be helpful if you want to harness its protective qualities, or if you want to support your energetic and physical bodies. Wearing peridot also allows you to carry the stone’s happy energy with you throughout your day. Set an intention for how you would like this stone to support you. Be sure to cleanse your worn peridot regularly, as you would with crystals in your home.
